Kim Shepard-El-Ince, M.A., LGPC

under supervision by Angela Sarafin, LMFT, LPC

Kim Ince received her Master’s degree in Biblical Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary in 2022. She is licensed in DC as a Licensed Professional Graduate Counselor (License #LGPC200001446).

Although Kim works with a variety of clients, she has a passion for working with women of color.

A few words from Kim:

“Although therapy is my second career, raising four children to adulthood has prepared me with life experience prior to my formal education. The primary reason this field captured my attention as a professional pursuit is my involvement with young adult women during my husband’s pastorate. I realized many of the challenges they faced were due to unresolved past issues that were impacting their present.”

“Being seen, heard and validated by a trustworthy person is the first step of telling your story. My primary focus is to create a safe space so that therapy can be a positive experience for you. Identifying and celebrating the beautiful, joyous parts of your story while acknowledging and processing the ugly, unpleasant parts is the challenging work. Therapy is a team effort requiring patience and consistency with the process. These are the marks of working toward identified goals. I consider it a privilege to be used as an agent of change and being trusted with the vulnerable parts of your life.”

KIM’s Approach

As an African American woman, Kim understands the reality of racial trauma and the unique impact it has on individual well-being. Her desire is to work with clients, particularly women of color, who have experienced racial trauma and other life challenges, such as grief/loss, relationship struggles, and life transitions. The therapy techniques she uses most are Person Centered, CBT and Narrative. Meditation and mindfulness are also incorporated to help clients get the most out of each session.”
